Long-term Marine Ecosystem Research Center

The long-term marine ecosystem study (2011 ~ 2021) is a national R & D project supported by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, with a total budget of 30 billion won. This study was conducted to establish a long-term monitoring network for major marine ecosystems in the Korean peninsula, (2) to carry out ecological researches on major core representative areas, (3) The goal is to develop a predictable model for conservation. Therefore, I would like to contribute to the identification of the patterns, causes, and processes of changes in marine ecosystems on the Korean peninsula through long-term marine ecosystem studies and to establish technologies for coping with climate change. In this study, we carry out international collaborative research involving international joint monitoring program and international specialized research institute. Through this, we can strengthen research capability on biological - ecological response to global climate and environmental change through utilization of advanced research technique and exchange. , Contributing to fostering professional manpower that will become the mainstay of future marine ecosystem research.

Ertl Carbon Emission Research Center(Ertl Center Long-term Marine Ecosystem Research Center)

Nobel Prize winner in 2007 Was established to establish a research center named Gerhard Ertl and to identify the electrochemical conversion behavior of carbon fuel recycling and carbon fuel cells based on electrochemistry. The Center will study (1) carbon dioxide recycling and alternative energy technologies that utilize environmentally friendly electrochemical conversion reactions to solve fuel supply problems due to future climate change and fossil fuel depletion, and (2) And the electrode surface interface analysis method has been established to focus on the physicochemical properties and mechanism of the reaction. In addition, (3) To improve the production efficiency of electric energy and high purity carbon dioxide, we analyze the electrode surface and internal fuel behavior of carbon fuel cell and research and develop the two technologies to provide solutions for environmental problems and energy problems in the future. I expect it to be possible.

Chemical Risk Assessment Center

The Center for Chemical Risk Assessment is a research center that studies the behavior of environmentally hazardous chemicals caused by human activities, their impacts on ecosystems and human health. Currently, the main research area is focused on the task of the Ministry of Environment, which is being carried out with the support of about 13.5 billion by 2021 as a field of chemical accident and its prediction and management of environmental damage. Detailed research areas include hazard assessment and vulnerability assessment, which combines biological approach and statistics, and damage assessment based on biological metabolism analysis using molecular biology techniques and damage detection based on aerial photography using drones. The Center conducts and supervises central research in the Chemical Accident Research Group of the Ministry of Environment and is conducting cooperative research with 15 research institutes including the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.

Global Desalination Research Center(GDRC)

In 2006, the Seawater Desalination Plant Project was launched by the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology as one of the "VC-10 Projects", which is the R & D project of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Tourism in order to raise national R & D capacity and profit. The Seawater Desalination Plant project has made a major contribution to improving the technologies of domestic desalination plants to the world's highest level and has achieved remarkable achievement in exporting and winning major technologies of domestic desalination plants to more than 10 countries. In December 2013, the Global Desalination Research Center (GDRC) will be responsible for the management of the seawater desalination plant project by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in order to systematically manage the achievements of the Seawater Desalination Plant project, Was established. GDRC aims to lead the global desalination market as a world-center hub in the field of desalination technology by establishing a more global network formed by the achievements of the Seawater Desalination Plant project.

Center for PM2.5 health risk assessment reduction technology and forecast improvement

The Ultra Fine Dust Industry Project was launched in 2014 as one of the tasks for solving the problem of the future social problems (3 years 9 billion). The project team has developed 1) a functional new material mask, a persistent electrostatic filter purifier, and a filterless purifier for water condensation, growth, and collision to supply low cost and customized purification materials / devices, and 2) Scientific computation of vulnerability and human health risks of specific diseases by composition and mixed type in mixed ultrafine dust through epidemiological studies on cell / inhalation toxicity according to constituents of fine dust, 3) Observation data of satellite, ground, and modeling materials And 4) to propose the system analysis and improvement plan for the integrated management system of ultrafine dust, and to establish an effective communication system for the public. Approximately 168 researchers (including GIST, Pusan *National University, Seoul National University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Ajou University, Ewha Womans University, Institute of Industrial Science and Technology, Institute for Safety Assessment, University of Florida, USA), including three general institutions, 10 detailed research institutes and 3 unit research institutes Etc.)
