Research Area

Our group studies biogeochemical cycling of metal pollutants in the global environment. Metal
pollution is one of the major environmental issues associated with human health concerns since
some metals, such as mercury, are retained in biota and biomagnified along the food chain. The
major focus of our study is to understand the biogeochemical controls on metal transport, transformation,
removal, and bioaccumulation processes. Of particular interests are interactions between
mercury and natural organic matter, and the role of microbes in mercury transformation.
